This is a Barred Owl, who is cared for by my friend Michele, a federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator who works with us at New York Wildlife Rescue Center. This fellow was hit by a car a number of years ago and suffered a severe wing injury that prevents him from being releasable. He is maintained on an educational permit, and has become an experienced teacher, as Michele helps people learn about wildlife and wildlife rehab, and become more aware of the wonderful beings with whom we share our planet.

Isn't that the most inscrutable face?
